Istanbul's INTERNATIONAL SABIHA GOKCEN Airport, the second airport in Turkey's largest city, saw passenger numbers jump by 96 per cent in the first quarter of 2010 from the same period a year earlier, the airport operator said on Thursday. Gokhan Bugday, CEO of the airport operator ISG, told a news conference that the total number of passengers using Sabiha Gokcen reached some 2.2 million in the first three months of the year.
Sabiha Gokcen Airport's new international terminal building opened in October 2009 and it is operated by a multi-national consortium of TURKEY'S LIMAK HOLDING (LMAK), GMR INFRASTRUCTURE (GMR) and MALAYSIA AIRPORTS HOLDINGS BERHAD (MAHB).
The airport, located in Istanbul's Asian side, increased its passenger number by 52 per cent in 2009 up to 6.6 million.
