Turkish explorer and historian Saffet Emre Tonguc and British travel writer Pat Yale have published their book, "Istanbul Hakkinda Hersey" (Everything About Istanbul) after three years of dedicated work.
The 650-page book includes 3,000 photographs, illustrations, maps, engravings, miniatures and historical photographs. Tonguc and Yale chose photographs from their own collections as well as from those taken by more than 60 photographers.
The writers expressed their views not only about historical and tourist sites, but restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, hotels, night clubs and Turkish baths.
Award-winning Turkish travel writer Tonguc studied tourism and hotel management, political science, international relations as well as Ottoman social history and completed doctoral studies in the Business Administration Department in Vienna. Tonguc has visited 112 countries working as a tourist guide since 1987.
The author, who writes in the travel supplement of the daily Hurriyet and Voyager magazine, has published a book titled "101 Must-See Places in Turkey" and received various awards, including the best professional guide of Turkey. He also won "the best book of the year" award with his book "101 Must-See Places in Europe."
Educated in history at Cambridge University, Yale made her first visit to Turkey in 1974. She was the co-writer of "The Good Tourist in Turkey" book in 1992. She has written in many guides and books about Turkey for 10 years, including "A Handbook for Living in Turkey,” which aimed to help foreigners living in Turkey.
Yale lives in a restored “fairy chimney” in the Goreme town in the central region of Cappadocia, and has discovered many unknown places in Turkey such as Tillo, Tilmenhoyuk, Sivrihisar, Yesemek and Kozan, sharing them with her readers.
